Member Insurance Benefits

Third Party Insurance

If you are involved in an accident which is your fault and you are normally resident in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, you are protected by the British Cycling Federation (B.C.F.) Public Liability Policy. This policy has an indemnity limit of £5,000,000 and the cover applies if you are riding or wheeling your cycle anywhere in the world. Should you be involved in an accident and you consider that you were at fault you should telephone the B.C.F. Legal and insurance Helpline on 0500-525676. If possible, you should have made a record of the time and place of the accident and details of the other vehicle with regard to liability, just restrict yourself to advising that the claim will be dealt with by the Insurers of the Federation. You can of course advise them of the B.C.F. address and telephone number. You should receive a Liability Claim Form in a couple of days after making your application, and you will need to read the notes which accompany the form in order to complete and return it to their office without delay. Claims under the following circumstances are excluded: 1. Against a member of one's immediate family. 2. One competitor against another in a cycle race or time trial. 3. One member against another where they are taking part in race preparation or training rides. 4. By a member who is not resident in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

Legal Advice and Assistance

If you are involved in a car or cycle accident which is not your fault contact the Legal and Insurance Helpline. The B.C.F. will take your details over the telephone and begin acting for you straight away. As car accidents are now included, for B.C.F. members there is no need to purchase Legal Expenses cover as part of your motor insurance policy. This offers a significant saving almost equivalent to the annual membership fee. The new service includes credit hire and credit repair for both bicycles and motor vehicles in appropriate cases. This means that you will be able to get back on the road very soon after your accident. The service is open to B.C.F. members who are resident of the UK, Isle of Man or the Channel Islands, and is free unless £75,000 or more is recovered in compensation, in which case you may be asked for a contribution towards legal costs. Competitive rates for Cycle, Sponsored events (reliability trials etc.) and Comprehensive Travel Insurance (if you are travelling abroad) can also be arranged.
