Bronze fun tour

Saturday’s Ballymena Road Club Chain Reaction Cycles fun tour was the fifth of this year’s series and the first opportunity for those with full attendance to win their bronze awards.

A total of 78 riders assembled at Rex Bonar House on a cool, calm and dry morning.

Another £55 was donated to the Chernobyl Children’s appeal charity fund and the total now stands at £730.

The "A” group had the longest ride with their 63 miles 19.5 mph outing taking them to Dunloy, Ballymoney, Newmills road to Coleraine and then Bushmills. The return trip was by Derrykeigan, Dervock, Cloughmills and Doury road.

The tourists completed a 38 miles ride to Dunminning, Glarryford, Killagan, Rosnashane and on to Carnroe lock before returning via Townhill road to Portglenone and again ascending Tully before the finish in through Ahoghill and Gracehill.

The "B” group completed a 60 miles ride at 18.4mph to Antrim, Loughside road, Crumlin, Glenavy then on to the UGP circuit and past the grandstand and on to Divis.

Sixteen riders earned their bronze medals on Saturday. 

They are; Sammy Connor, Bobby Currie, Michael Diamond, Alan and Rhonda Donegan, John and Sean Elliott, Sammy Kerr, Jackie Knowles, Pius McKernan, Harold McKinney, Bernie Monaghan, Paddy Mooney, Martin Ruddy, Gary Simms and Richard Wilson.
