George is Ballymena Schools Champion

George Graham, a 14 year old student at Ballymena Academy, has won the road club’s "Ballymena schools championship” mini stage race at Broughshane. The event took place last Monday night in perfect conditions and comprised a time trial, road race and hill climb.

The results were: 3.1 miles time trial (1) George Graham (Academy) 8 minutes 57 seconds (2) Breandan McCavana (St Louis) 10 minutes 00 seconds (3) Emma Gordon (Cullybackey High School) 11 minutes 46 seconds.

3.1 miles road race (1) Graham 9.09 (2) Gordon at 7 seconds (3) McCavana at 23seconds.

Hill climb (1) Graham 1 minute 31 seconds (2) McCavana 2 minutes 05 seconds (3) Gordon 2 minutes 48 seconds.

Overall (1) Graham (2) McCavana (3) Gordon 

There was racing again on Thursday night when Spires cycling club promoted round two of the inter club series. This time it was the turn of Micky Kelly of Carn Wheelers to take the honours on a night which saw the scratch group fail to score. Jack Owens of Ballymoney was second with Ballymena’s Karl Taylor and Nigel Kernohan third and fourth.
