Road Racing League Winner - Ryan Currie

Ryan Currie has won the 2012 Ballymena Road Club – Chain Reaction Cycles - road racing league series, for the William Smyth cup.Ryan, who won the Star Trophy GP of the glens road race and was second in three races, including, round one’s H&M Wilson cup race at Slaght; the A Bonar cup at Broughshane and the short circuit road race at Randalstown, amassed a winning total of 51 points.
 Chris Beattie, who put up a spirited challenge all season in the Northstone sponsored club race series, won the final round’s Will Henry cup at Glarryford and the Sammy Connor cup at Broughshane, which this year was the club’s road race championship, was just two points behind on 49 points.
 Connor Young, who collected maximum points at Clough finished third on 46 points.Nigel Kernohan won two rounds; The A Bonar cup and the Randalstown short circuit scored 34 points and finished fourth.
 Tommy Wilson, although without a win, also scored consistently and also amassed 34 points. (6) Clifford Grant, who won the Sammy Gaston cup road race, amassed 31 points (7) Quinton McFall 30 (8) Ryan Shaw 27 (9) Ryan Bankhead, the H&M Wilson cup winner at Slaght had a score of 25 points. Equal (10) Alan Blair and Matthew Brennan 21 points each (12) Sean Wright 11 points (13) Peter Smyth 10 points (14) Richard Reid 9 points (15) Martin Ruddy 8 points (16) Simon Taggart 7 (17) Adrian Kerr and Mark Wright 6 points each (19) Andrew Moss and Karl Taylor 5 points each (21) Brian Geddis 3 points (22) Stephen Smyth 1 point.
 
Ryan Currie was also successful on the club’s time trial scene. He won the Water Margin cup, which is awarded to the rider with the fastest 10 miles time trial of the season, when he clocked 21 minutes 53 seconds on his way to winning the Gardiner cup event on the A26 Lisnevenagh road course on 1st August.Ryan’s time trialling improved during the season and this is reflected in his fifth place in the handicap league.
 Ryan also finished runner up to his father Bobby in the veterans’ time trial championship where his age standard performance was plus 42 minutes 46 seconds.Ryan’s time trial performances for the 2012 season were: 10 miles 21 minutes 53 seconds; 25 miles 54 minutes 06 seconds; 50 miles 1 hour 56 minutes 43 seconds. This is an average speed of 26.949 mph which gave him second position in the club best all-rounder championship for the McQuigg cup.He also clinched the Australian Pursuit mini-series, for the Tommy Smyth cup, by winning the 18 miles event on the Slaght, Caddy circuit on 25th April.
 
Ryan and all the other perpetual trophy winners will receive their awards at the club prize presentation dinner, which is scheduled for Eaton Park on Friday 30th November. Tickets cost £17.50 and are currently available from committee members.
