Fun Tours Reach Silver Standard

Saturday saw 57 cyclists turn up for the eighth ride in this year’s fun tour series.This was enough for two groups this time although the "A” group riders were a bit thin on the ground. Instead they joined the "B” group and together they completed a 55 miles ride at 18.4mph.Their route took them out through Cullybackey and on to Rasharkin then Finvoy to Balnamore and on through Loughan and Mountsandel to Coleraine.The return route was along Newmills road to Ballymoney, Garryduff, Dunloy, Dunminning, Hillmount and Cullybackey.
The 31 riders on the touring group headed out the Doury road to Ballyweaney and then on past Loughguille and the Fivey road to the outskirts of Stranocum before heading along the Gracehill road to Killyrammer and on to Garryduff and back via Dunloy, Dunminning, Hillmount and Cullybackey. This was 44 miles at 15.5 mph.Another £25 was donated to the charity fund on Saturday and this now stands at a record total, for the fun tours, of £882. There are five more weeks, let’s try to beat the £900 mark for the first time ever.All proceeds will be donated to the Chernobyl Children’s appeal NI.Silver for seventeen.
Seventeen riders have full attendance so far on the series and they earned their silver medals on Saturday. The successful qualifiers are; Maura Bradley, Christina Clarke, Sammy Connor, Jim Doherty, Alan Donegan, John and Sean Elliott, Ronnie and Iris Grant, Billy Jebb, Sammy Kerr, Pius McKernan, Paddy Mooney, Martin Ruddy, Danny O’Loan, Richard Wilson and of course Rex Bonar, who opens up the premises and looks after the parking each week. Five riders completed their fifth tour and earned their bronze medals, they are; Maurice Carruthers, John McAllister, Alastair Petticrew, Caolan Stuart and Desi Wright.
