Michelin Touring Run

Tuesday, April 9, 2013
Michelin’s team Bibsport cycling club held their first touring event of the season on Sunday with a challenging 75 miles trip to the North coast and glens. BRC secretary Hazel Hughes was one of the participants, she was impressed. "It was a great run on Sunday, nice and steady. This run replaced the early season tour which Michelin usually did around Lough Neagh and luckily for us the run was postponed from March 23rd because of the snow. This suited BRC riders who avoided the clash of dates with the Wallace Caldwell which was scheduled for the same day.”
"Two groups left the Michelin Athletic Club with 20 in the fast group and 40 in the touring group. The route was Doury road, Cloughmills, Loughguile and then it followed the Red Hand Trophy course to Ballycastle, Ballypatrick, the vanishing lakes, Cushendall and the bonus climb of Garron tower, and on to Carnlough and back in through the Braid to the MAC.
The Michelin Chairman, Jackson Currie, ensured the run was at a controlled pace, with plenty of re-grouping and so the group stayed together very well. The tandem was out with Barry McFarland and Sammy McAuley and they did the whole route.”
"The fast run was really mainly the BRC "A” group.
The BRC riders in the touring group were, amongst others, Maria Shannon, Maura Bradley, Eileen and Jason Burns, Paul Patterson, Brian Currie, Maurice Carruthers, Murray and Connor Young, John Mckillop, Alastair Petticrew, Andy Wills, Sammy Connor and Hall Booth.
It was enjoyable but very tiring” added Hazel.
