Donegal Touring Weekend

Monday, June 24, 2013
Ballymena Road Club secretary Hazel Hughes was along with the Michelin party which enjoyed a touring trip to Donegal last weekend. Hazel reports – "A group of 36 went on the weekend to Buncrana’s Innishowen Gateway hotel. Most rode up from the Michelin Athletic club on Friday to take the ferry at Magilligan to Moville. They had heavy showers and hailstones to contend with along the way on their 78 miles first stage.”
"Saturday morning saw more heavy rain but we went out anyway and rode to Carndonagh and Simpsons where Jackson Currie (Michelin Chairman) had organised piping hot soup and sandwiches. Soup has never tasted so good. They even put our clothes in the tumble dryer. The distance was 38 miles. We had a lovely meal in the hotel that evening and there was even time for dancing at the Plaza on the main street. On Sunday, most of the group rode back to Ballymena through Londonderry, the Foyle bridge, Limavady, the Cam, Garvagh and Kilrea. A distance of 59 miles.”
"There were a lot of tired legs in the bunch. Thanks to Bertie for doing support vehicle, mending punctures and generally looking after us in the rain. Special mention of Paddy and Sammy on the tandem. Also Liz Carey, a first timer on the Donegal trip, who did all three days. It was a great weekend, as always, despite the weather.” Concluded Hazel.
